Our resorts are renowned for being at the forefront of innovation and as such are consistently developing to maintain their reputation. Here’s what’s Yodel mag in Morzine discovered is new this summer….
Fabien Barel Mountain Bike Courses
Fabien Barel, the French downhilling legend announced his retirement from racing in August last year and has jumped wholeheartedly into his role as an ambassador for Les Gets village. Fabien has organised a series of mountain courses this summer that are available to everyone. The courses are 3 days long and focus on downhill and endurance, there will be a maximum of 24 people in each group so you can really benefit from specific tuition.
Fabien Barel Coaching Track
Another addition Barel has made to the village of Les Gets in his role as ambassador is a new coaching track. The track includes a succession of modules built along a mountain bike route. It is specially developed for riders to focus on a particular area of their riding such as tackling raised corners, braking or doing jumps. Each of these teaching modules are accompanied by Fabien Barel’s video to show you how it’s done. You can find the new coaching track on Des Ecureils; the green run in the Chavannes area.
Each week of the summer you can also improve your mountain biking skills by following Barel’s introductory and improvement videos on the lesgets.com/vtt website. The bike training doesn’t have to stop when the lifts close!
Morzine swimming pool and spa
It will be the first summer that Morzine has had its very own indoor pool so there’s no need for a rainy day to interrupt your swimming training this year. The new complex includes 3 saunas, 2 hammams, a kid’s pool and a learner’s pool. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out over the busy winter then we suggest you head down there this summer.GPS Rental
Les Gets is heading for its first summer equipped with the Flaik GPS system, which works resort wide and allows for data collection. You can hire the GPS equipment to measure your daily distance and the route you took either biking or hiking. By connecting the equipment to the internet at the end of the day it will show you all this information plus your maximum and average speeds.Aquariaz
Set to open on July 1st, the water park for Avoriaz has been highly anticipated. The park will consist of three different worlds to appeal to all ages. Firstly, the fun and colourful Water Playhouse is designed for children and includes water slides, buckets and water guns. Then the Sidewinder is designed to appeal to adrenaline junkies who are looking for a little more excitement. The sidewinder is like a half pipe that you slide down in a rubber tube from a height of 10 metres.
The third world is designed to appeal to all ages featuring a flowing river with bubbles, jets and water games. It also has a normal swimming pool for anyone who just wants a regular swim and another swimming pool that is lined along one edge with a climbing wall.
And the pièce de résistance…an outdoor spa, heated to 34 C with a magnificent view of the valley down towards Morzine. Stunning.
