Over the past few years there’s been a marked shift in the cost of carrying winter sports equipment abroad. Research conducted for metrosnow.co.uk by travelsupermarket.com shows that since last year the cost of carrying ski or snowboard gear on a flight has increased by as much as £15 per set of equipment for a return journey.
Travelsupermarket.com assessed the cost of kit carriage in 2010 and in 2011 for 10 major airlines serving popular winter sports destinations. The findings showed that five of the airlines have increased their charges while a further two have altered their policies regarding winter sports equipment carriage.
Thomson shows the greatest increase in ski carriage prices since last year. In 2010 the airline charged £25 return for ski or snowboard kit whereas this year it is charging £20 each way, a hike of £15 per journey.
